Could you be an Allotment Mentor?

The National Allotment Society has a team of volunteers who help to support the allotment movement across the UK. We would like to recruit two new people in the North West and are looking for people who have direct experience of supporting the development of allotment sites and associations at a local level. Mentors are given support and training to enable them to:-

• Provide one-to-one advice/support to allotments associations, local councils, and community groups/agencies (eg schools, community groups) and anyone involved in managing, regenerating or creating allotments
• Promote membership of the NAS and to promote our work
• Assist with the delivery of allotments officers’ forums
• Support the Regional Representative to gather information to help protect sites
• General allotments promotional work, eg, stalls at events and gardening shows
• Signpost plot-holders to appropriate sources of gardening advice or give advice if competent.

North West Counties Allotment Associations, last meeting of 2019 is on Sunday 1st December at 12.30.The venue is Crumpsall and Cheetham model allotments,Hazelbottom road, Cheetham, Manchester,M8 0GQ Everyone is welcome to attend, we would love to see you all there.

Your Local Pantry are giving Christmas food boxes to local people in need. Would any of our members be interested in donating potatoes, carrots and any other fresh vegetables to Your Local Pantry, for them to box up and give to people in need this Christmas. Tins, cereals, rice/pasta, chilled/frozen foods are also needed. Donations welcome from Monday 9th December at.

I have been approached by Your Local Pantry, who run much needed food pantries across Stockport. They are planning to give away food boxes over Christmas, to some of the most needy people in Stockport. Would any of our plot holders be interested in donating potatoes, carrots and any other vegetables to Your Local Pantry, for them to box up and give to people in need.Thanks in advance.

Mark Rogers, Fundraising officer for Stockport Homes, attended our October meeting.He gave us plenty of good advice for raising funds for allotment associations. He has asked that we share this information for those who could not attend the meeting.
